The Hunter Valley Wine Country is a major tourist destination and attracts over 1.5 million national and international visitors annually. To ensure a positive visitor experience, effective and legible wayfinding signage is essential.

We were engaged for the joint project with Cessnock City Council and Singleton Shire Council to guide the planning, design, and installation of wayfinding signage in the region.

The existing signage in the Hunter Valley Wine Country was dated, complicated, and in poor condition. To address this, we developed a hierarchy of new tourism signs designed to guide visitors to and around the area and that defined the key growing regions within the broader Hunter Valley Wine Country area. The process involved extensive consultation with winemakers and businesses within the Region.

The result was an integrated and informative signage system that reflects the values of the region, communicates a strong brand identity, is adaptable to a changing commercial environment and is integrated with supporting digital information systems that cater for the broad range of international visitors.
