Moir Landscape Architecture were commissioned by Lake Macquarie City Council to undertake the master planning and the documentation and construction administration of Stages 1 & 2 of the Hunter’s largest all-abilities playground at Speers Point.

The design phase was undertaken in collaboration with specialist playground designer Mary Jeavons and involved extensive consultation with the Lake Macquarie community, special needs educators, and occupational therapists to ensure the playground was inclusive, therapeutic, and, most importantly, fun and challenging for every child.

The design features extensive play equipment including a 12-metre climbing tower with a giant spiral slide, multiple swings, climbing nets, and a double flying-fox. It also incorporates musical elements scattered throughout the park, as well as a water play area, and a wheelchair accessible play boat.

The playground was awarded the Lower Hunter Urban Design Awards, People’s Choice Award & Design Merit Award in 2008 and the 2011 AILA NSW Design Award.
