Moir Landscape Architecture built upon the concept design established by the Hills Shire Council and developed the detailed design and documentation for the 1.4ha Equinox Drive Reserve located within the Box Hill land release area. With 4 street frontages and a 12m drop over the site, the landscape setting and rural features provided inspiration to create a park respectful of the site’s history and land uses.

The design outcome created a multi-functional passive and play space with improved shade and amenity providing opportunities for social gathering and building community relationships. The Reserve features a natural-themed play area broken into a younger and older children’s play space, passive recreation, grassed kick about space, picnic facilities, and several pathways within the site connect the playground and grassed area creating a loop path for kids on bikes and scooters.

The design utilises natural materials including sandstone log retaining walls, sandstone sculptures, mulch soft-fall, and native plantings.

Within its unique site narrative, we successfully created a recreational facility with its own sense of place, that of a budding welcoming and inclusive community at Equinox Drive Reserve.
