Moir Landscape Architecture were engaged by Newcastle City Council to undertake the design and documentation of the city’s largest playground located at Richley Reserve in Newcastle’s  iconic Blackbutt Nature reserve.

Our role in this high-profile project was to create a playground tailored to the reserve’s unique natural character. It required consideration of pedestrian circulation, accessibility, and appropriate materiality.

We were lead consultants for this project responsible for managing subcontractors, design safety assessments, planning approvals, and contract documentation.

Working with local fabricators, we created bespoke elements and equipment tailored to all ages and to the site’s undulating topography and natural vegetation. These include a rope course, see-saw, swings, rock and stick play spaces, and a large adventure tower.

The playground opened in September 2018, and has been very well received by the public.
