Moir Landscape Architecture were engaged by Newcastle City Council to provide concept design, tender documentation and construction documentation for the iconic Merewether Baths and the adjacent public domain area.
The intention behind the project was to maintain the existing character of the baths while improving access, safety, and amenity. Our proposal included terraced platforms into the children’s pool, a realignment of access ways to provide safer and more legible pedestrian connections, and high-quality finishes and seating with materials to suit the harsh coastal environment.
The $4 million upgrades, which were finished ahead of schedule, were well received by stakeholders and the public. The baths continue to attract high numbers of visitors.
