Moir Landscape Architecture were engaged by Cessnock City Council to prepare a master plan for the revitalisation of the Kurri Kurri Commercial Centre. The revival was due to the opening of the Hunter Expressway and the growth of new residential development in the area.

The master plan was developed to integrate into the overall district strategy and is designed to guide future public domain improvements in the centres of Kurri Kurri and Weston. It also served to highlight the rich history of the area.

Emphasis was given to reinforcing the distinct character of Kurri Kurri and differentiating it from neighbouring centres. A focus on pedestrian and cyclist connectivity to increase safety, amenity, and activity was suggested to help the centre thrive.

Enhanced vehicle movements, connections and parking were designed to encourage visitors from the wider region into the centre. Improvements to the existing parks and streetscapes are proposed to accommodate large scale social events.
