COMPLETION

2019

The recently merged Dubbo Regional Council covers a vast portion of the Central West, including the town of Wellington. As more people move from regional towns to larger cities, Dubbo is one of the few places predicted to benefit from future growth in NSW.

We were engaged by Dubbo Regional Council to produce the Open Space Master Plan for the LGA. The plan provides a strategy for the council’s existing open space, considering new urban release, rising population needs and the implementation of a green grid within Dubbo and Wellington.

To deliver the master plan, we overlaid the critical gaps and local demands for open space and connectivity with cycling, schools, tourism, and street trees to develop an understanding of Dubbo’s future direction. Opportunities for the reclassification of land for the purpose of open space and connectivity functions were also explored.

These human needs were also integrated with biodiversity protection and enhancement. In the context of a changing climate resilience measures were explored and developed to respond to future extreme weather predictions.
