Living Campus is a council initiative to transform North Sydney’s education precinct with a suite of public domain projects to create attractive, safe and engaging spaces for residents, workers, students and visitors. The aim is to enhance the precinct’s function as an urban campus; better connect people, schools and places; and transform the streets into valuable civic spaces.

Charles and Napier Streets were converted into paved Shared Zones to create a low speed traffic environment prioritising pedestrians moving around the precinct. Individual stakeholder engagement was undertaken with local retailers, commercial tenants and Educational Institutions to understand and address operational needs and maintain the Australian Federal Police’s emergency response requirements.

Utilising the North Sydney Public Domain furniture and materials palette, the new public campus hub respects the Don Bank Museum heritage curtilage, is generous, safe and open.

The project also extends into Berry Street with a range of footpath widening, kerb extensions, tree planting and granite paving.
