Sovereign Cove Estate, Marmong
Sovereign Cove Estate is proposed aged care development consisting of a total of 94 dwellings on 47 lots. Moir Landscape Architecture were involved in the preparation site master planning, visual impact assessment and preparation of DA documentation. The site is within close proximity to Lake Macquarie and sits within a dense bushland setting.
The master plan included community facilities, a lake, playground and extensive open space. The proposed landscape was intended to provide a safe, functional and attractive environment that encourages physical activity and social engagement. The small lake that remains as a legacy of the previous land use was a key feature of the development with a bowling green and promenade proposed on the lake edge. An extensive pedestrian network, including disabled access, connects residences with community facilities and negotiates the significant level changes throughout the site. Many of the roads terminate in open space, and view lines towards the lake and bush land were considered in the site planning process to insure that a sense of openness was maintained in the residential precinct. The design was driven by key principles specific to seniors living and principles that are specific to the site that respond its unique qualities and environmental attributes.
