Moir Landscape Architecture were engaged by MAP Projects to develop concepts for the improvement of the Bar Beach public domain area to coincide with the expansion of the Bar Beach kiosk.
Due to the significant level change between Memorial Drive and the sand the interface between the beach the road had evolved over the decades into an ad hoc collection of winding stairways and ramps that ensured a very inefficient use of space and poor connectivity to the beach.
Our proposal involved the consolidation of stairway and ramp access ways and realignment to provide legible connections between the car parking areas and the beach. The proposal involved replacing the existing shear retaining walls with pavillion seating and expansive areas of timber decking and seating.
The proposal also included a sand play area and feature lighting to activate the space for night time use.
